Preach the Word

Preach the Word was what Paul instructed to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2. In many verses throughout scripture there appear to be suggestions given of what a preacher is supposed to preach. The theme appears to always center around sticking to the teachings in scripture, and deviating from it as little as possible. However, in my observation of popular churches in American culture today, many of them are becoming less and less focused on scriptural teaching, and more and more focused on personal anecdotes and motivational speeches.  Picking and choosing verses here and there out of context to formulate one’s own original message, rather than letting Scripture be the messenger. I won’t name names of preachers or churches, but I’m sure some popular ones today can immediately come to mind. So I thought it’d be more important to show the ideas that scripture seems to present of what kind of preaching a preacher is supposed to give you, and you can determine for yourself whether the church you currently assemble with reflects that, or if perhaps that you need to make a change. Hello again my fellow facttruthers. The other day I got into a very healthy and vigorous debate with a believer of the Christian faith on the necessity of baptism for salvation. I think it’s always important to encounter people who reach different conclusions to you on faith matters to further sharpen your beliefs. After debunking most of the usual points that people bring up (“baptism is a work”, “Romans 10:9”, etc.), the person decided as a last resort to throw a link of a website that he felt confident would debunk all my scriptural assertions. Being a person that’s always up for having my thinking challenged for the betterment of reaching the best understanding of my faith, I decided to read through the article. After reading through all of it, I became more firm in my belief, and decided to make a point by point post that firmly refutes all of the points in this article. (more…)

The True Purpose of Christianity

Last updated on October 10th, 2019

It’s hard for me to understand why people look at the Scripture through the lens of it being all about the prosperity of man. It’s hard for me to understand why people view Scripture through the lens of it being all about a personal journey of one’s own fulfillment.  I’ve been diving into Scripture of late, then I find myself reading the Christianity blog posts on here, and it’s so strikingly evident that most people who profess to be Christian really don’t seem to know the true purpose of Christianity. As I stated in previous posts, the Christian journey is not God placing you on some personal life journey all about you, your growth as a person, and eventually you getting the desires of your heart. Does God vocally speak to Christians?

Last updated on October 10th, 2019

I’ve desired to write on this particular topic for a while, and it’s something I’ve always had a curiosity about even before I actually became a scripturally saved follower of Christ a few years ago. I’ve had many of friends in life that profess to hear from God. I’ve heard many of televangelists and self-proclaimed preachers in different churches claim to have heard messages from God to deliver to the people, and seen many of professed Christians that believe God has vocally spoken to them about what to do in their life. In discussing this topic, I want us to avoid entertaining our own personal experiences, because I would assert that personal experiences mean nothing if they aren’t backed up by the truth of God’s Word. My goal in opening a dialogue on this topic is for us to do as best as we can to formulate a complete understanding, based on all of the Scripture, of whether God speaks to us vocally today or not. Observing blog posts tagged as Christianity

Last updated on October 10th, 2019

As much as I enjoy writing these posts, I also like to take the time to observe what my other fellow bloggers who write on Christianity are writing about. When I observe the posts that pop up in the Christianity tag, it’s always interesting to me how much I see just about the same things. The common theme of topics seems to reflect Christianity as one’s personal journey of triumph that God is preparing and changing that person for. Whether it’s a new job, a spouse, or whatever, that’s what the Christian journey all seems to boil down to for some. God being the deliverer of personal fulfillment of one’s earthly desires in life. When I read these types of posts, I always find it really odd, because it sounds nothing like what I read in the Scripture. (more…)

Lessons from 1 Timothy: Chapter 1

Last updated on October 10th, 2019

Hello readers. I was serious about what I meant in my previous post, so here I am again. Today I’m going to be highlighting some things we can learn from First Timothy, and I’m going to start with Chapter 1. I may go through the rest of the chapters in the future. I was re-reading through this book the other day, and I underlined a few things that I found to be helpful for understanding what represents authentic teaching, and also other little things I found of interest. So let’s begin with 1 Timothy verse 3 which states, “3 I urge you, as I did when I was on my way to Macedonia, to remain in Ephesus so that you may instruct certain people not to teach any different doctrine,” Now throughout 1 Timothy we have a prevailing theme of Paul expressing the difference between false teaching and authentic teaching for the Church.
