Prosperity Gospel verses in context

So I’d say about a year and a half ago, I got into a healthy debate with a woman who proclaimed the teachings of prosperity gospel, where essentially one can have whatever they desire if they speak it into existence (healing, wealth, marriage, etc). Or in other words for those not familiar with the meaning of  the phraseology “speak it into existence”, essentially saying you have the power to have whatever you want if you ask and believe hard enough, and God is just waiting for you to use that power as if He was a genie ready to grant your every wish. She cited a litany of verses to me, all of which I believe I was accurately able to explain in context, but even after that, she was still unwilling to change her mind. In a way I can understand why she wouldn’t. If I believed God gave me the power to get whatever I desired through naming and claiming things, the last thing I would want is someone to tell me that my belief isn’t necessarily accurate and I can’t. Obviously we all want good things, and just to be completely clear, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with desiring good things. But looking back at the response I wrote to her, I wanted to share it with you all, because I believe it can be a useful tool for elevation of accurate understanding of Scripture in context. So here is my original response (only slightly edited because of typos and adjustments in articulating what I mean) that I wrote to this woman that cited a number of verses proclaiming prosperity gospel. Hello again my fellow facttruthers. The other day I got into a very healthy and vigorous debate with a believer of the Christian faith on the necessity of baptism for salvation. I think it’s always important to encounter people who reach different conclusions to you on faith matters to further sharpen your beliefs. After debunking most of the usual points that people bring up (“baptism is a work”, “Romans 10:9”, etc.), the person decided as a last resort to throw a link of a website that he felt confident would debunk all my scriptural assertions. Being a person that’s always up for having my thinking challenged for the betterment of reaching the best understanding of my faith, I decided to read through the article. After reading through all of it, I became more firm in my belief, and decided to make a point by point post that firmly refutes all of the points in this article. (more…)

What is God’s plan for my life?

What is God’s plan for my life? Such a common question asked by many of professed Christians, but yet many fail to find that answer staring right back at them in Scripture. It’s somewhat of a pet peeve of mine that some expect God to have a specific designated special plan for their life as if they’re destined to achieve some kind of grand self-fulfilling purpose especially made for them. Students of the Word, I challenge you to recognize that your purpose in life is not specific, but in actuality quite general. We’ve all been given a general purpose as followers of Christ to fulfill God’s will (which is to say his desire that we commit ourselves to obeying His instructions of us in Scripture) and to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Necessity of Baptism for Salvation (Part 2)

Last updated on October 10th, 2019

Today I thought I’d go through some more common arguments used against baptism being a necessity for salvation. I’ve already went over a few of the most common ones, which you’re welcome to read in my post titled “The Necessity of Baptism for Salvation” on my home page. It’s a very important issue given that if those who’ve deceived people into believing it’s not necessary are wrong, millions of souls hang in the balance. So in doing my part to continue to advance the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, I’m prepared to debunk any and all arguments that have no Scriptural validity. (more…)

Have you obeyed the Gospel of Jesus?

Last updated on October 10th, 2019

Have you obeyed the Gospel of Jesus? I would imagine for most who have professed to be Christians, that’s not a question they’ve ever heard. Instead, they were probably asked, have you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? It was a question I was asked myself, and funny enough even though I prayed that little “sinner’s prayer”, I’d find myself praying it again from time to time. Almost as if I instinctively knew I wasn’t really saved yet. But it would take me a few more years before I would finally discover the truth. And now here I am trying to help others discover the truth, as I do my part in advancing the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (more…)

Salvation

Last updated on October 10th, 2019

The most important topic as it pertains to Christianity is salvation. It’s the central foundation of the Christian faith that all of mankind are sinners in need of the saving power of Jesus Christ, having shed his blood on the cross for all of man’s sins. Without this knowledge and realization, you have no Christians, and thus you have no Christianity. It perhaps can not be stressed anymore strongly than that, which is why is it’s extremely relevant for one to understand how to receive salvation through Christ. The difference between knowing and not knowing is the difference between a life of eternity with God and a life separated from God. There can not be any room for error when it comes to factually understanding this question of salvation, and God would not allow there to be any doubt about it for something He considered so important, the salvation of mankind, that he sent His only begotten son to die for it.
